Judge Bauer served as Chief Judge of the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals from 1986 to 1993 before assuming senior status in 1994. During his time on the bench, Judge Bauer participated in several notable cases, including National Rifle Association v. Chicago, a gun rights case with fellow judges Frank Easterbrook and Richard Posner. Judge Bauer is a veteran of the United States Army and a graduate of DePaul University College of Law.
