2007 - 2008 LAGBAC Legal Seminars
Throughout 2006 and 2007, LAGBAC joined forces with Howard Brown, The Chicago Public Library, and The Chicago Bar Association Committee on Legal Rights of Lesbians and Gay Men, to provide free legal seminars tailored to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender, intersexual and questioning audience. Topics included Estate Planning/Advance Directives; Securing LGBTIQ Relationships and Joint Ownership Issues; Employment Discrimination; Immigration; Buying Your First Home & the Real Estate Process; Understanding Landlord/Tenant Issues in Chicago; and HIV/AIDS/LGBTIQ Legal Resources; Community Organizations. LAGBAC Board Members officially meet the first Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at the offices of Bell, Boyd, Lloyd at 70 W. Madison Street, #3100, Chicago, Illinois 60602. All LAGBAC members and prospective members are welcome and encouraged to attend. Meet The Bar at Sidetrack
LAGBAC and Lawyers for Diversity welcome judges, legal professionals, law students, to a monthly social networking event from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Sidetrack, 3349 N. Halsted Street, Chicago, Illinois, 60657 (Roscoe and Halsted). The Meet the Bar events exist thanks to the generous contributions of Sidetrack and numerous law firms throughout Chicago. Lawyers for Diversity welcomes judges, legal professionals and law students to its Fourth Annual Lawyers for Diversity Mid-Summer Barbecue, which will take place on Thursday, July 31, 2008 from 6-8pm at Sidetrack, 3349 N. Chicago Bar Association Committee on Legal Rights of Lesbians and Gay Men
The CBA/YLS Committee on Legal Rights of Lesbians and Gay Men allows regular opportunities for lawyers interested in LGBTIQ legal issues to meet in a supportive, professional atmosphere to exchange ideas and information. The Committee furthers the professional development of gay and lesbian attorneys through the sharing of information at monthly meetings and continuing legal education programs. The Committee offers an environment where lawyers and student members of the CBA can discuss practical issues of "coming out" in law school or in the workplace. The committee sponsors programs that seek to improve access to the legal and judicial system by members of the LGBT community. The Committee meets the first Tuesday of every month at 12:15 PM.
